King of the Minimal from Turkey returns

(Copyrights reserved to the respective copyright owner)

Last November, Ahmet Sendil’s visit to UG club Playground, Helsinki, was a great success. The crowd wanted more, and now they are getting it. It is time for the round two, tomorrow night, on Friday 21.1 — Ahmet is back.

This is the man who brought electronic music in the limelight in Turkey back in the days. Ahmet has been in business for almost 20 years now, starting in 1989, back home in Turkey and slowly expanding his scene around the globe. Istanbul’s Ahmet has established his own record labels M-Vitamine and Bosphorus Underground that are very popular today, and started releasing music in 2007.

Now, as the result, Ahmet is one of the most respected DJ’s of minimal house music genre. With remarkable minimal music, he definitely has his own style. Like he says:”Anyone who listens to my new tracks on Beatport could say, yes, that’s Ahmet. I name it ‘sexy happy minimal’”. And I can’t but agree!

Some of my favorite tracks and remixes by Ahmet:

‘Istandam’
‘Vicious games’
‘Adelante’
‘Feels like I’m dancing'
'Bye bye my brain’
‘Don’t get lost'

Welcome back to Helsinki Ahmet! =)

Motellet — Upcider Olohuone lanseerausbileet

Aikaisemmassa postauksessa hehkutin tulevista Upcider Olohuoneen bileistä Motelletissä (Annankatu 10), jotka järjestettiin 17.12.10, ja tässä olisi sitten snadi katsaus illasta, hyvin ajoissa postattuna… Aina ei vaan valitettavasti ehdi.

Keikkaa siellä heitti The Giant Leap, Kim Herold, Laura Närhi, Jussu Pöyhönen ja Kristiina Wheeler.

Sedu Koskinen ALERT Tonight

A few days ago, I’ve got invitation to the nightclub mogul Seppo “Sedu" Koskinen’s newly opening club, Velvet Nightclub. Sedu is running the show in this town, by far, owning majority of the places on surface in every city of Finland plus Estonia’s capital.

Sedu’s lightning speed of taking over new places, and stringing them to his pearl necklace extension, is impressive. But it is about the time for some freshness for the town’s old favorites, too. The Tiger is getting awfully old and boring. The reason being, its well past it’s 8-year old restaurant life-cycle — simply passé. People are still going there, but for no better option, as well as on certain special events. But, nevertheless, from what I hear, Velvet came out of the blue, and has lots of expectations and is awaited surprise…

The Nightclub Velvet is ready to roll on this Friday, tonight. The place is also already Sedu’s, not so long been operated Jazz club Birdland’s premises, according to Kauppalehti. Well, only for the time being Birdland is having a break, until it’ll find a new home in close distance. Eventually, Birdland will also open it’s doors, have its program renewed n’ all that jazz done.

What the future brings and when we’ll hear jazz there again, I personally haven’t got a chance to hear it even once yet, anyway. Let’s wait for jazz… But more than that for tonight! Bluff or Hit? Who cares — it’s Friday! Hopppaaaa!

CORRECTION:
My friend mentioned to me about a mistake here regarding the time that the Tiger has been open in Kampinkeskus. To make a correction, after the Lux has been closed down, new Tiger has opened it doors in March 2009. My writing is a bit misleading here as I mention the Tiger’s over 8-year existence. However, the Tiger nightclub concept has existed since 2000, occasionally renaming itself drastically from Tiikeri to The Tiger, and changed a place.

NYE 2011

I have three words to say about this year’s celebration — three day party-carnage!

By the way, I did choose the gold cocktail dress by Guess for the first night out, even though you can’t see it very well from these pics.

First, we had pre-party drinks at Sini’s, and reminisced a year gone by, had lots of different cheeses and wine, salads, vodka and what not.

The girls (and one girls' boy) and I dipped our melted horse-shoe tins in water. Like it is used to do traditionally on Finnish NYEs. Here you can see the process itself.

The outcome I could see from my tin is a heart in the middle and two people holding champagne flutes. Sini got a star and a bowing or glancing up girl, I guess, depending on your view-point. And Iina got apparently a tin sculpture that promises lots of money. What can you see? Others tin pictures unfortunately I don’t have.

We even had time to play with ideas of what the coming year might bring for us. I had a bromance with minimal teddy, and Artur decided to play a role of the Cupid.

Against our better judgement, we simply couldn’t follow through all of our plans. We skipped the NYE Vesa-Matti Loiri’s concert and the fireworks, what a shame — NOT. I had enough fireworks past year anyway, I’m sure I can take it a bit easier this year without too many explosions & still not feeling too bored.

So, the next stop was Clinic’s NYE @ the Fredan Tivoli, the club was pumping, and included the most prominent Finnish artists of the electronic music — Super8 & Tab, Orkidea, Orion, Milla Lehto, Paul Easy, Flink and Visions Collective to mention almost but not all. Behind all of this successful event is events management company Clinic and Marko Kantola.

Here’s wrap up video made of the night at the Clinic.

End the rest, as they say, is a history… ;-)

Our sassy second home.

It's been rather a hectic week, shall I say! Last weekend was massive three-day party-carnage, and Playground exceeded everybody's expectations on a Independence Day - the hours, the music & the whole atmosphere, two words guys - absolutely amazing job! Okay, that was three.

What's even more exciting, Playground had this very same week the Grand Opening of it's funky street-side face 'IsoRoba 10'-bar, or actually it was named only temporarily as 'Isoroba 10' but newcomer is still waiting for it's christening. A 'little' expansion happened so we don't have to actually vacate our 'home' and head to private parties, for instance, if we don't want to. Now, we can easily slide our flip-flops on and cross over from one side of the building to another, that is, to our living room, where we can chill-out & drink our morning tea after intensely soul-shaking dancing session!

I feel privileged to witness all these positive changes taking place. Especially, when I see, how it brings a lot of joy to many people around me. This clubbing scene has become somewhat close-knit family. After all, I dare to guess, that in many occasions we spend heaps of time with each other, sharing many laughters, crazy moments, dramas, happy times & unforgettable occasions to reminisce a long time to come. It's just natural that we, really, ought to look after each other and celebrate each others break-throughs.. ;-)

Here's few pics from the Grand Opening night but mostly you can see interior and perhaps feel the vibe of the place.
